A Shower for Imke

Posted 29 July 2013 by ness

My friends are very creative and were excited about organising a baby shower for another friend and her beautiful newborn baby girl, Imke. Planning and crafting over several evenings which in itself was kind of fun, we managed to put together some awesome decor which was much appreciated by our new mum, and the shower was a brilliant success.

So here are our ideas and photos of our handicraft. Many of these ideas have come from Pinterest...

INVITATIONS

We used the Birdie invitations which you can order from www.partyinvitations.com.au. We received so many lovely comments about these invitations. They are simply gorgeous:

THEME AND COLOURS

Nicky Van Jaarsveld, the most creative of our group, suggested the little birdie theme from which we developed our decorations. We chose shades of pink and purple.

STICKS!

Sticks are a bit of a group favourite when it comes to decorating believe it or not. Besides the fact that they are completely free, they create interest with their natural shapes and they can fill height and width so easily. Also, because they are neutral in colour, you can add whatever you like to dress them up. We used a branch from Susan Periotte's garden which formed the centrepiece of the room. We also utilised some ornamental sticks Nicky had herself in a vase.

BIRD CAGES

Angie Wilkins made bird cages using a craft we saw on Pinterest from Creature Comforts and we hung these from the branch. They looked really cute.

We also had a little wooden bird house with a pair of wooden birds. These were put on pink tulle and sat beside a glass vase of pink and white marshmellows. We put out skewers to pick up the marshmellows from the vase.

PAPER FANS AND FLOWERS

We also made paper fans and flowers which we put on the branches and Nicky's ornamental sticks.

POM POMS AND PINK BALLOONS

We hung pink balloons and pom poms (made from pink bin liners).

SWEETS

As much as it was possible, pink and white afternoon tea was prepared:

  • Pink and white layered cake
  • Pink berries
  • White chocolate truffles coloured with red frogs and rolled in coconut (thanks Susan - these were delicious)
  • A dip with sweet chilli (or cranberry would have been nice too)
  • Pink biscuits - including Iced Vovos, pink and white wafers, Honey Jumbles and Pink Hundreds and Thousands.
  • Chocolate cake
  • Pink and white merengues would have been nice too.

tea, coffee & RASBERRY LEMONADE

so easy... add frozen berries to lemonade and serve in a glass pitcher with pretty glasses!

GAMES

Angie organised some great games... word scramble, animal babies (where you guess what a baby animal is called, for example, dog - puppy, eagle - iglet), and we had to make an maternity bra out of newspaper. That was heaps of fun with many different styles being presented including bras with play things, bras with extra padding and storage space, and a very stylish bra with ruffles and all.

THE GIFT

We all put in together for nappies, teddies, a bathtowel, baby wash with lavender, singlets, bibs and socks and Nicky turned all of these things into a fabulous nappy cake and bucket of posies.
