In 2025, the NCAA Women’s Tournament will host 148 teams in various postseason events, in addition to the well-known 68-team NCAA Tournament. Among these additional events are the Women’s Basketball Invitation Tournament (WBIT) and the Women’s National Invitation Tournament (WNIT).
The NCAA women’s basketball tournament will kick off with 68 teams playing from March 19 to April 6, with the championship game at Amalie Arena in Tampa, Florida. The teams are unveiled on Selection Sunday, March 16, consisting of 31 conference tournament champions and 37 at-large teams.
Selection Sunday is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET on ESPN, followed by the First Four on March 19-20 and subsequent rounds at various campus sites. The Sweet 16 will take place in Birmingham, Alabama, and Spokane, Washington, followed by the Elite Eight rounds at the same locations.
The Final Four games are set for April 4 at 7 p.m. ET, with the championship game on April 6 at 3 p.m. ET, both at Amalie Arena in Tampa, Florida. The NCAA Women’s Tournament will be broadcast on ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, ESPNews, and ABC, with streaming available on platforms like ESPN+, YouTube TV, Sling, and Hulu + Live TV.
31 conference tournament champions receive automatic bids to March Madness, with teams like South Carolina, Duke, UCLA, and Oregon State among the list. The games will be played at various sites, including Legacy Arena in Birmingham, Alabama, and Spokane Arena in Spokane, Washington.
For those not making it to the NCAA Tournament, there are alternative competitions like the WBIT and WNIT. The WBIT, a 32-team tournament, will culminate in the championship game at Hinkle Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. The WNIT, featuring 48 teams, will reveal its field on March 17 and proceed with rounds until the championship game on April 5.
Looking ahead, future Final Four locations include Footprint Center in Phoenix in 2026, Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio in 2027, Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis in 2028, and various other venues in subsequent years.
