The Seoul Metropolitan Government presents the ‘Saerok Wedding’ program, an eco-friendly option at World Cup Park from March to November. This initiative promotes sustainable wedding practices, advocating for reduced waste and encouraging guests to use public transportation.
‘Saerok Wedding’ signifies a new emergence, symbolizing the unity in marriage while emphasizing nature’s green hues. The focus lies on minimizing environmental impact throughout the wedding planning and execution stages.
Since its launch in 2015, the program has seen 96 couples participating, each infusing their ceremonies with unique and creative elements. Rather than traditional practices, Saerok Weddings steer clear of disposable items, opting for digital or recycled paper invitations, reusable tableware, and eco-friendly meals.
Guests are urged to embrace eco-conscious choices, such as using public transport to reach the venue. In 2024, 13 couples celebrated their weddings at World Cup Park, incorporating sustainable practices like mobile invites, vegan meals, and contributions to tree-planting initiatives to offset carbon emissions.
Couples have the freedom to design personalized weddings, fostering meaningful experiences for themselves and their guests. To be eligible, one member of the couple must be a Seoul resident or worker, with applications open until October 10 for ceremonies in 2025. Details and application procedures are available on the Seoul Parks website.
Interested couples can access the ‘Saerok Wedding’ section on the Seoul Parks website and choose from two partner agencies for the application process. While the park venue is free, additional wedding expenses are coordinated with the selected partner agency.
The Saerok Wedding program not only offers a green and sustainable wedding option but also allows couples to contribute positively to the environment while celebrating their love. It serves as a model for eco-conscious events in the modern era, aligning with the global shift towards sustainability and environmental responsibility.
As the world increasingly focuses on environmental conservation and sustainability, initiatives like the ‘Saerok Wedding’ program set a precedent for mindful event planning. By encouraging couples to embrace eco-friendly practices, it not only reduces waste but also inspires guests to make greener choices in their daily lives.
With the rise of eco-conscious consumerism and the growing awareness of climate change, events like eco-friendly weddings become more than just celebrations – they become statements of values and commitments to a sustainable future.
As couples continue to seek ways to make their special day unique and memorable, the ‘Saerok Wedding’ program offers a blend of personalization, eco-consciousness, and community engagement. It symbolizes a shift towards more mindful and responsible celebrations, setting a new standard for weddings in the modern age.
